This is our favorite route for enjoying the Leza Canyon in spring, offering views of the Trevijano waterfalls as well as the Leza Canyon itself. The route begins in Soto en Cameros, 10 minutes from the Molino. It’s about 7.2 kilometers of medium difficulty and takes about 3 hours, including stops.
Leave Soto to climb the old trail to Trevijano, a traditional path through the ravine, where you can see several waterfalls and even cross over one of them. This stream only has water in spring, the time of year when we most recommend this route.
After approximately an hour, you’ll reach the highest point, the village of Trevijano, where you can rest in its square and stroll through its streets. The village is perched on the slopes of the Leza Canyon and has a beautiful viewpoint at its entrance; it will be an interesting place to stop before continuing.
From Trevijao, follow the steep descent that will take you through the oak forest to the canyon road. Continue on this road in the direction of the viewpoint. This descent is not marked, and it can be difficult to find the trail. We recommend using a GPS in this area to avoid getting lost.
Once on the road, go uphill toward Soto. This stretch of road is the most beautiful in the canyon, which will make the journey more bearable and make the less than 15 minutes it takes to reach the canyon viewpoint seem shorter.
From the viewpoint, descend gently along the old road to the starting point, Soto en Cameros. You can enjoy the views and, if you’re lucky, see vultures fly overhead.
The route is not fully signposted, so the use of a GPS is recommended for following it.
Note: Hiking shoes and comfortable clothing appropriate for the circumstances are recommended. The fitness and technical level is medium, recommended for those accustomed to mountain hiking.
