Old church in Santa María
This is a mid level hiking trail, traveling through the most interesting of our shire: old oak and beech forest, waterfalls and natural pools, the abandon village and San Román village. The best way to discover the history and nature of Cameros.

Old oak forest of San Román
We will start going up to the old oak forest, and once we enter it, we will walk through a beautiful trail. This part is mostly uphill, and we will visit the traditional stone hut, an old shelter of shepherds.

We will leave the old “dehesa”, and a few minutes after, we will enter the beech forest. We will descend through this beautiful forest full of leaves.

In the bottom of the forest is the creek, where we will walk around to find two waterfalls and the remains of the old wood bridge, this was the path that the people of Santa María used to reach de forest.

From the creek we will hike to the abandon village, a evocative place to think in other times and ways of living.
Abandon village of “Santa María en Cameros”
From the village we will go down with the creek to San Román de Cameros, passing near the waterfalls and pools of “Villa Cristina”. In summer we will be able to refresh in the pools, they are not very cold 😉
